Types of Carports

rto
Regular Metal Carports

The regular style carport is our most economical option, with a rounded roof that resembles the look of a barn. The roof sheeting runs horizontally from end to end. These metal carports are some of the most popular in the US, and they are typically designed for one, two, or three cars.

rto
A-Frame Metal Carports

Also known as boxed-eave carports, this style is popular among homeowners who want a steel carport that will better match the look of a typical house design. The A-frame roof sheeting runs horizontally like that of a regular roof. One advantage that the A-frame has over a regular roof is that it has a sturdier design.

rto
Vertical Metal Carports

The vertical style carport is the strongest available carport design. The roof is A-framed, but it is also reinforced with additional bracing and supports. Another distinction of the vertical style carport is that the roof sheeting runs vertically, rather than horizontally, which enables rain and snow to flow off more easily.

rto
One-Car Carports

As you might expect, our one-car carports are designed to effectively cover one car or truck. Of course, you aren’t limited to using it only as a place to park your car. One-car metal carports are also great for sheltering mowers, bicycles, sports equipment, gardening, equipment, and more!

rto
Two-Car Carports

Also known as double carports, our two-car carports are designed to shelter two standard-sized vehicles. Two-car metal carports are a popular choice among our customers who have two vehicles they need to cover, or who simply want more flexibility in how they use their carport space.

rto
Three-Car Carports

Also known as triple carports, our three-car carports are designed to shelter three standard-sized vehicles. Three-car steel carports are great for covering multiple vehicles, and can be designed to accommodate a wide range of other items. A three-car carport is also large enough to be used to host a neighborhood cookout, or any outdoor event where you need a reliable roof overhead.

rto
Car Sheds

Metal carports provide reliable open-air shelter for whatever you need to cover, but perhaps you need a carport shelter that offers better protection for your ride. Our car sheds add walls to the basic carport design, and provide you with an enclosed metal shelter or garage that is both safer and more secure. You can also choose a metal carport with storage or metal carport with shed design that combines a metal carport with attached enclosed space.

Carport Roof Styles

rto
Regular Roof Style

The regular roof style is a good choice if you’d like your carport roof to have a rounded look like that of a barn. The regular roof provides reliable protection from excess UV exposure, and the roof panels run horizontally from end to end. The regular roof is a good choice if you live in an area that gets little heavy rain or snow.

rto
A-Frame Roof Style

The A-frame or boxed-eave roof more closely mirrors the roof design of a house, and like a regular roof its panels run horizontally. The A-frame roof is a stronger design than the regular roof, and is a better choice if you live in an area that may receive some heavier rain or snow.

rto
Vertical Roof Style

The vertical roof is our premier choice. It’s built on the stronger A-frame, and it also comes with additional reinforcements that make it our strongest option. Vertical roof sheeting also channels rain, snow, and debris off the roof more easily. The vertical roof is your best option if you experience more extreme weather, and is highly recommended for any building that is 36’ in length or greater.

Advantages of Metal Carports

Steel carports are superior to buildings made with wood or other materials for several reasons:

  • Low-Maintenance – Metal is easier to clean and needs less maintenance than stick-builds or other structures. And since the color is infused into the metal during the fabrication process, you won’t have the same peeling or fading paint issues that wood does.
  • Durable – Metal carports don’t rot like wood and can stand up to constant use and weather challenges including high winds, heavy rains, snow, and lightning, and they’re more earthquake-resistant, too. The metal paneling is coated with aluminum or zinc compounds to help prevent rust and prolong panel life.
  • Pest and Fire Resistant – Steel isn’t susceptible to termites, critters, or pests, and won’t harbor mold or mildew. Steel is also much more fire-resistant than wood.
  • Customizable – The versatility of steel for building design allows for more clear-span interior space and customization options, too. It’s also easier to expand your metal carport as your space needs grow.
  • Less Expensive to Insure – Thanks to the superior strength, durability, and fire resistance of a metal carport, your insurance costs may actually decrease if you choose a steel building over other options. That’s another cost benefit you get by choosing a structure from American Metal Structures!
  • Easy to Install & Environmentally Friendly – Metal carports require less time, labor, and energy resources to install than do stick-builds or other options. Another nice feature of our buildings is that the steel components we use are almost 100% recyclable!
What Carport Size Do You Need?

One of the first things you need to decide when choosing a metal carport is how you plan to use your structure. Consider how much space you’ll need to accommodate your vehicles and anything else you’d like to keep under cover. We recommend you allow for extra space to include vehicle or equipment additions in the future. We can custom build in any size to fit your needs. A 12’-wide carport will generally fit a single car; we also build carports that can shelter multiple vehicles. Metal carport length starts standard at 21’, but we can extend the length out as far as you need. Factor in the height of your vehicles or other equipment, too. Metal carport height starts standard at 6’, and can be extended up to nearly any height you might need. We can build carports tall enough to house everything from RVs to combine harvesters!
